Success at the power markets.
28 August 2024
Greece’s leading energy supplier PPC employs KISTERS solutions for forecasting and procurement preparation.
Aachen (Germany), August 28th, 2024.
For energy suppliers it is important to know the expected sales volumes at all times in order to be able to procure electricity in a targeted manner and avoid expensive short-term purchases and balancing costs. In addition, the best possible placement of their generation portfolio on the electricity trading markets is crucial for a company’s success. Precise short-term and long-term forecasts enable energy suppliers to make future-proof decisions for their business.
Public Power Corporation S.A. (PPC), the leading energy supplier in Greece, is now using KISTERS solutions to manage its portfolio on the futures and spot markets and to forecast the short and long-term development of its sales. KISTERS, the Aachen-based IT provider for the energy industry, is supplying PPC with a forecasting system, an energy data management system with mass data capability and a sales aggregation system to improve the process between energy sales and procurement. “KISTERS’ innovative technology provides us with highly accurate load forecasts, supports the operational efficiency of the retail and energy management departments and enables us to better manage our complex portfolio in the various markets. Over the course of the project, KISTERS has proven to be an invaluable partner in the implementation of our digitalisation strategy. I am delighted with the positive results of this collaboration and look forward to further joint successes,” says Konstantinos Sofos, Director B2B Pricing & Demand Forecast at PPC.
The KISTERS IT solution integrates and manages around 10,000 metered medium and high-voltage extraction points and around 6 million low-voltage contracts. The rapid management and analysis of the mass data enables PPC to make data-based decisions and improve its trading strategy. “As part of our long-standing partnership with PPC, we are working together on best practices with the goals of increasing demand flexibility, developing new tariffs, improving customer service and operational efficiency,” explains Dr Markus Probst, Head of Energy at KISTERS.
AI-based forecasts across all time horizons.
PPC uses the KISTERS forecasting tool BelVis PRO to generate various forecasts using a bottom-up approach based on artificial intelligence (AI). The short-term forecasts with very high accuracy support trading activities on the day-ahead and intra-day market. They are calculated every three hours with a horizon of seven days in advance and an hourly resolution. The long-term forecast of the metering points is summarised with the KISTERS sales aggregation to procurement segments in order to improve PPC’s portfolio management and support the development of effective commercial strategies.
